Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
The first line of treatment against Ankylosing Spondylitis are NSAID medications. As it has been explained to me the ONLY way to prevent further joint damage is through the daily continued use of a NSAID medication by Dr. John D. Reveille of the University of Texas in Houston.
There are several classes of NSAID medications with different actions, durations, side effects and effectiveness. You will have to try several to see which one works best with your body without causing stomach pain.
There are hundreds of types of NSAIDs and if you are experiencing side effects such as stomach pain or headache see your doc to try another kind. Take stomach pain seriously...granted it will hurt enough that you will be inspired to change medications, trust me. NSAIDs can cause serious gastrointestinal problems like ulcers so stay on top of it.
