There is no cure or proven treatment to stop the devastating effects of Ankylosing Spondylitis.  Each individual responds to these medications in unique ways and with different levels of effectiveness.  Finding the medications that will work the best for you is a very, very long process that can take years.

Finding a cure will be challenging because we need our immune systems to keep us alive.  It goes without saying that if the medication deactivates too much of your immune system you are left vulnerable to secondary infections and complications.

There are four main categories of medications that try to lessen disease activity.  These categories are non-steroidal anti-inflammatories drugs (NSAIDs), disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), steroidal, and biologic drugs.

What I have learned in my six years of trying to treat this disease is that every solution will and does cause five more problems. The doctors will not always tell you what those five more problems will be so it is up to us as patients to be your own advocate and research EVERYTHING before taking it.
